WhatsApp has become the most widely-used messaging service all across the globe. The Facebook-owned chat service says that India is its biggest market and the numbers of New Year's Eve are a proof of it. WhatsApp users in India sent more than 20 billion messages on New Year's Eve, the company announced on Thursday.

"New Year's Eve was WhatsApp's biggest messagingday ever, closing out a successful year for the company that included the introduction of several new features," WhatsApp said in a press statement.

"These messages were sent between 12 am till 11.59 pm on December 31".


The new figure is higher than last year. The Indian users had 14 billionmessages last year's New Year's Eve.

WhatsApp currently has over 200 monthly active users in India.
"WhatsApp also made a new record globally with more than75 billion messages sent by itsusers. These 75 billion messages included 13 billion images and five billion videos."
